Pre-Dawn House Fire in Mexico City’s Iztapalapa Kills Two, Injures Two

Investigators are examining the ground-floor stationery shop where the blaze began to determine what ignited it.

  • Firefighters extinguished a blaze early December 25 at a residence in San Miguel Teotongo, Iztapalapa, after it erupted before dawn.
  • The fire started on the ground floor, which operated as a papelería, and that level was reported as fully affected.
  • Two females, approximately 30 and 16 years old, were found dead after crews gained entry to the building.
  • A 30-year-old man and a woman reported between 49 and 53 years old were rescued and treated for burns and carbon monoxide intoxication.
  • SGIRPC, Bomberos CDMX, CRUM and ERUM responded, secured the scene, and Servicios Periciales are conducting on-site forensic work with the cause still undetermined.
