Pre-Dawn Blaze Devastates Home of Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra

Authorities have begun investigating the cause following a two-alarm response that contained the fire to his property.

Overview

  • Miami-Dade Fire Rescue received the call around 4:30–4:36 a.m. and arrived to find two structures on the property fully involved.
  • More than 20 units, including aerial and hazardous materials teams, battled flames described as “as tall as the trees” before switching to a defensive attack after a partial collapse.
  • No injuries were reported and the residence was unoccupied; Spoelstra arrived after the Heat’s charter landed around 5:11 a.m.
  • Crews contained the blaze to the Southwest Miami-Dade property despite access challenges from a privacy wall and dense tree cover, and no neighboring homes were damaged.
  • Property records show Spoelstra bought the five-bedroom, six-bath home in December 2023 for about $6–6.6 million, and assistant coach Chris Quinn was seen at the scene.
