Pre-Dawn Blaze at Brooklyn Matzo Factory Injures Four, Traps Firefighter

  • Roughly 30 minutes after arrival, a rear collapse trapped a firefighter who was rescued by a Firefighter Assist Search Team and hospitalized with serious burns to his hands in stable condition.
  • Three civilians in a neighboring building, including a 2-year-old, were injured and taken to local hospitals.
  • The FDNY mounted a multi-alarm response with about 140 to 175 personnel and knocked down the main body of fire by around 3:20 a.m.
  • City officials issued full vacate orders for the bakery and an adjacent property, and the cause remains under investigation.
