Overview

  • In Prayagraj the Ganga and Yamuna have receded for a second day but remain above the 84.734-metre danger mark, leaving over 9,300 residents in 24 relief camps as sanitisation and cleanup teams deploy.
  • The Yamuna in Delhi breached its 204.50-metre warning level on August 7 and climbed to 205.05 metres by Thursday evening, its highest surge this season.
  • Central Water Commission data show Hathnikund barrage outflows peaked at 61,729 cusecs on Wednesday, with hourly releases above 50,000 cusecs sustaining elevated river levels.
  • Delhi’s irrigation and flood control department has issued alerts for low-lying neighbourhoods and will begin evacuations once the Yamuna crosses the 206-metre evacuation threshold.
  • The Delhi government plans to formally request Haryana to transfer operational control of the ITO barrage to bolster the city’s flood-management capacity.
