Power Restored to Kanaka Durga Temple After Disconnection Over ₹3.08 Crore Dues

An energy-for-free-power arrangement is at the center of the dispute over billing.

Overview

  • APCPDCL briefly cut the temple’s high-tension supply citing unpaid electricity bills totaling ₹3.08 crore, then restored service after talks.
  • Temple Executive Officer Seena Nayak said supply in and around the premises was back, following discussions with power officials.
  • Officials have alleged non-payment since February 2023, following which the utility sought settlement of bills for services previously supplied free.
  • The temple’s solar plant has been supplying about 24 MW to the state grid, with free electricity provided to 10 designated temple services under a prior arrangement.
  • Temple officials said generators maintained essential services for devotees, and the EO said a ₹2.65 crore cheque was being released as part of steps to resolve the issue.
