Power Fault Triggers Major Delays on Metrovalencia’s Network

Investigators are assessing whether the failure stems from the metro’s infrastructure or the external power supply.

Overview

  • An electrical issue reported on the morning of September 11 caused significant delays on Metrovalencia services, with lines 3, 5 and 9 confirmed affected and FGV later citing insufficient power on lines 3, 5, 7 and 9.
  • Several stations were dark or on emergency lighting, including Xàtiva, Colón, Ángel Guimerà, Mislata-Almassil, Mislata and Nou d’Octubre, according to FGV and passengers.
  • Metrovalencia said not all trains could circulate, and riders reported severe crowding and discomfort as limited services passed during the peak commute.
  • FGV reported that electrical equipment had been rearmed and that crews were working to resolve the incident after alerting users on social media around 08:00.
  • The disruption follows a separate September 10 communications fault between València Sud and Castellón that halted service on parts of lines 1, 2 and 7 before being resolved around 17:00 after single-track operations and forced transfers.
