Overview

  • Poundland’s restructuring plan calls for the closure of 68 stores and its frozen and digital distribution centres in Darton and Bilston.
  • The chain will stop selling frozen foods and scale back its chilled range to core essentials such as ingredients for its £3 meal deal.
  • Poundland.co.uk will cease online orders and the Perks loyalty app will be retired to concentrate on in-store operations.
  • Gordon Brothers, which acquired the retailer for £1, has pledged up to £80 million in financing and is seeking rent reductions at loss-making sites.
  • The overhaul is projected to reduce the estate to about 650–700 locations and cut roughly 1,000 jobs pending court sanction this summer.
