Poundland to Close 14 More Stores This Winter as Restructuring Deepens

The company is retrenching after a £1 sale to Gordon Brothers to target a smaller, sustainable estate.

Overview

  • The retailer said an additional 14 shops will shut by early February 2026, on top of 19 already scheduled, taking total closures to more than 100 by early next year.
  • Closing locations are running clearance sales with discounts of up to 40% across categories including groceries, homeware, clothing and beauty.
  • Poundland expects its UK estate to shrink from roughly 800 stores to between 650 and 700 when the programme concludes.
  • The company cites sharply reduced profitability and higher costs, including increases in the National Living Wage and employer National Insurance, with some sites closing after landlords ended leases and others identified as least profitable.
  • Newly named closures include Lancaster (Dec 19), Hammersmith and Weston‑Super‑Mare (Dec 24), Northampton Sixfields and Prestatyn (Dec 31), Faversham (Jan 6), Liverpool (Jan 15), Yeovil (Jan 16), Nottingham Eastpoint (Jan 22) and Coatbridge (Feb 8).
