Poundland Shuts Unlisted Birmingham Store as Next Closure Wave Nears

The off-list closure underscores a restructuring that will end online orders on 16 September alongside the Perks loyalty app.

Overview

  • Poundland’s Selly Oak Battery Retail Park branch has closed permanently despite not appearing on the company’s published August closure lists.
  • Twelve more stores are scheduled to shut on 24 August with a further 11 on 31 August, and clearance discounts of up to 75% are running at affected sites.
  • The retailer plans to reduce its estate from roughly 800 to 650–700 locations, with 68 closures targeted by mid-October and extra shutdowns where leases cannot be agreed, including Nottingham’s Castle Retail Park and Whitby on 3 September.
  • Online ordering will cease and the Poundland Perks app will be retired on 16 September, with existing Perks vouchers redeemable in stores until 15 January 2026.
  • Further operational changes, including planned closures of distribution centres in Darton later this year and Bilston in early 2026, remain subject to High Court approval under a restructuring backed by Gordon Brothers’ reported £80 million funding.
