Overview

  • Poundland has scheduled 10 sites to close on August 10 and 15 on August 17 as part of its 68-store downsizing under Gordon Brothers.
  • A separate Cowley, Oxfordshire, branch will close on August 7 after lease negotiations failed, independent of the main restructuring.
  • Three stores—Swiss Cottage, Chiswick and Southampton West Quay—have already shut their doors since April, marking the start of the recovery plan.
  • The chain aims to shrink its estate from about 800 outlets to between 650 and 700 by mid-October, with Darton and Bilston distribution centres set to close in early 2026.
  • The £1 sale to Gordon Brothers came with an £80 million financing package and signals wider moves to streamline operations and refocus product ranges.
