Overview

  • Fifteen stores shut on August 17, with further waves scheduled on August 24 and August 31, and closing branches running clearance sales of up to 75% off.
  • From September 16 the retailer will stop online deliveries and retire the Poundland Perks app, with rewards vouchers redeemable in store until January 15, 2026.
  • Management plans to shrink the estate from about 800 branches to between 650 and 700, including 68 closures slated for completion by mid-October.
  • Proposals include closing distribution centres in Darton and Bilston and reducing frozen and some chilled ranges, changes reported as subject to High Court approval.
  • Additional shutdowns are occurring as leases expire or terms cannot be agreed, including Nottingham’s Castle Retail Park on August 29 and Whitby on September 3.
