Poundland Confirms Nine More Store Closures With Dates Through Mid-February

The move advances a restructuring under new ownership to shrink the estate, with a renewed focus on £1 pricing.

Overview

  • New shutdowns will occur between January 18 and February 16 across Dorchester, Plymstock, Bearwood (Smethwick), Gosport, Chichester, Feltham, Crayford, Nottingham (Chilwell) and Urmston.
  • Closing branches are running clearance sales with discounts of up to 40% across all stock to wind down operations.
  • Poundland has already shut more than 100 sites since June 2025 as it moves from roughly 800 locations toward a 650–700 store estate.
  • The retrenchment follows the sale of the brand by Pepco Group to Peach Bidco, a Gordon Brothers subsidiary, for £1 and a subsequent restructuring program.
  • After a five‑month West Midlands trial, the chain says around 60% of grocery lines will be priced at £1 across remaining stores.
