Poundland Confirms Nine More Store Closures Through Mid-February

The move follows last year’s £1 sale to a Gordon Brothers vehicle as the discounter presses on with its turnaround plan.

Overview

  • The nine affected sites are Dorchester (January 18), Plymstock (January 20), Bearwood, Smethwick (January 23), Gosport (January 29), Chichester and Feltham (February 8), Crayford (February 11), Nottingham (Chilwell) (February 13) and Urmston (February 16).
  • Stores preparing to shut are running clearance sales with up to 40% off across all stock, according to the company.
  • Poundland says its estate will settle at about 650–700 shops, down from roughly 800, after more than 100 closures since June 2025.
  • The closures are part of a restructuring launched after Pepco Group sold the business to Peach Bidco, a Gordon Brothers subsidiary, for £1.
  • The chain is also rolling out simpler pricing that will set about 60% of grocery lines at £1 following a five-month trial.
