Overview

  • After a five-month pilot across 17 West Midlands stores, Poundland reports higher customer satisfaction and roughly a 25% fall in shoplifting once higher-priced items were removed.
  • The new price structure is already live in Manchester Arndale, Liverpool Lord Street, Hanley, Brixton and Wandsworth, with all stores set to adopt it by the end of September.
  • When the rollout is complete, more than 60% of grocery items will cost £1, with most other lines priced at £2 or £3.
  • A High Court-sanctioned restructuring keeps the chain trading with a £60 million funding injection and requires 68 store closures, placing about 1,000 shop roles and roughly 350 distribution jobs at risk.
  • Poundland will shut its website and Perks app next month as it simplifies ranges and plans to extend the three-price approach to general merchandise and clothing.
