Potsdam Senior Defrauded of €220,000 in Phone Scam

Scammers posed as police, claiming her son caused a fatal accident and needed bail money.

A senior citizen in Potsdam was tricked into handing over €220,000 in cash and valuables to scammers on Wednesday evening.
The perpetrators falsely claimed her son had caused a deadly car accident and required bail to avoid jail.
The victim delivered the money and valuables to a man at a prearranged location in Babelsberg-Nord.
The fraud was uncovered only after the woman contacted her son following the transaction.
Police have launched an investigation and are seeking witnesses to identify the suspect, described as a man aged 30-40, approximately 1.80 meters tall, with short dark hair and wearing an olive jacket.
