Post-Punk Musician Luis Vasquez, Known as The Soft Moon, Dies at 44

Vasquez's Death Linked to Deaths of Techno DJ 'Silent Servant' and Partner Simone Ling

Luis Vasquez, the musician behind the project The Soft Moon, has died at the age of 44. His death was confirmed by his manager, Marco Rapisarda.
Vasquez's death is connected to the deaths of two others, techno DJ Juan Mendez, also known as 'Silent Servant', and his partner, Simone Ling.
Vasquez started the Soft Moon as a home-recording project that evolved into a popular post-punk/darkwave project. The music, originally intended only for Vasquez and a few friends, established a worldwide fan base.
Vasquez was born and raised in Oakland, California, and started his first band by the age of 15. He released his debut single, 'Breathe the Fire,' on Captured Tracks in 2010, and a self-titled full-length later that year.
Vasquez's Afro-Cuban heritage played a key role in the creation of his signature tracks. He released a total of five albums, with his latest project, instrumentals from his 2022 album 'Exister,' released in December 2023.
