Overview
- The Post Office agreed a one-year bridging extension with Fujitsu running from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027 for about £41m.
- The organisation says it expects to award a contract to a new supplier to manage Horizon by July 2026, with that provider overseeing the system while a replacement is built.
- Horizon will continue in service under Fujitsu support until the transition to a new platform is complete.
- Freedom of information data show more than 16,000 discrepancies flagged by subpostmasters over two years and £11.6m of unidentified shortfalls written off in the most recent year.
- Replacement efforts have slipped and costs have escalated from roughly £180m to £1.1bn, with a May tender splitting work into a £323m services contract and a £169m off‑the‑shelf software deal, while Fujitsu has acknowledged a moral obligation to contribute financially without a final settlement agreed.
