Post-Mortems Due as Gardaí Probe Suspected Murder–Suicide of Father and Son in West Dublin

Gardaí expect pathology findings today to steer the case, with Tusla confirming prior contact with the family.

Overview

  • The deceased were named locally as Wayne O’Reilly, 48, and his son Oisín, 11–12, found at separate homes in Ballyfermot and Clondalkin on Thursday morning.
  • Police are treating the case as a suspected murder–suicide and say they are not seeking anyone else, with a senior investigating officer leading the inquiry.
  • Both properties were sealed for forensic examination, the Coroner was notified, and the Office of the State Pathologist was requested to conduct post-mortems today.
  • RTÉ reports the father was discovered in a back garden with suspected self-inflicted injuries, while follow-up searches led to the discovery of the boy’s body at a second address.
  • Tusla said the child and family were known to the agency but he was not in state care; the pair had been reported missing in October and later found safe, and NEPS is supporting the boy’s school community.
