Post-Mortems Completed as Gardaí Probe Suspected Murder–Suicide of Dublin Father and Son

Child-welfare contacts with the family are under review after authorities confirmed prior engagement with Tusla.

Overview

  • Irish police identified the deceased locally as Wayne O’Reilly, 48, and his son Oisín (also reported as Oisín Reddin), found at separate homes in Ballyfermot and Clondalkin on 8 January.
  • Gardaí say the case is being treated as a suspected murder–suicide led by a senior investigating officer, and they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the deaths.
  • Post-mortem and technical examinations have been completed, with results withheld for operational reasons as the investigation continues.
  • Tusla confirmed the boy and his family were known to the agency but he was not in state care, and the National Review Panel is expected to examine Tusla’s prior involvement.
  • Recent reports say relatives were engaged in a custody dispute and had raised concerns for the child’s safety, following an incident last October when the pair were reported missing and later found safe.
