Portofino Bans Begging, Loitering and Public Drinking for Summer Season

Overview

  • The ordinance, signed by Mayor Matteo Viacava on July 14, took effect immediately and will remain in force until September 30, 2025.
  • Begging of any kind, both harassing and non-harassing, is prohibited in central public areas, parking lots, near churches and on the Umberto I pier.
  • The decree also bars loitering behaviors such as bivouacking and sitting or lying on streets, benches and walls.
  • Drinking alcohol in public, emitting noise past 12:30 a.m. and wearing swimwear or going barefoot in town squares are strictly forbidden.
  • Violators face fines ranging from €25 to €500, with local officers tasked with enforcement across the borough.
