Portland Thorns to Retire Christine Sinclair’s No. 12 on Oct. 4, First to Enter Team Hall of Fame

The move recognizes a record-setting career that defined the Thorns across the NWSL era.

  • The club will hold the jersey-retirement ceremony at Providence Park before Portland’s match against Bay FC.
  • Sinclair retired in 2024 as the world’s leading international goal scorer with 190 goals for Canada.
  • She leaves Portland as the club’s all-time leading scorer with 79 NWSL goals, second in league history, and holds team records for matches, starts, minutes and penalty goals.
  • The former captain led the Thorns to three NWSL Championships along with two Shields, the 2021 Challenge Cup, the 2021 Women’s International Champions Cup and the 2020 Fall Series.
  • She selected the No. 12 as a tribute to former Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Roberto Alomar.
