Overview
- Two Portland officers were shot around 8:20 p.m. Monday while responding to a reported weapon threat near NE 17th Avenue and Clackamas Street and are hospitalized in stable condition.
- The gunman fled the scene and, after an overnight perimeter and search, police ended the immediate sweep early Tuesday but said the investigation remains active.
- Police released photos and a description of a white man in his 30s with facial hair, wearing a black baseball cap, black jacket over a gray hoodie, black pants and shoes, and carrying a black backpack and a green shopping bag.
- Officials say the suspect is believed to be armed with a knife and a handgun, and they urged residents not to approach him.
- A large tactical response deployed SERT, crisis negotiators, air and UAS units, K-9 teams, and dozens of officers, with road closures and shelter-in-place orders; police declined to say whether officers fired their weapons and asked for tips at homicidetips@police.portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-0479.
