Portion of School Demolished in MP’s Betul After ‘Illegal Madrasa’ Rumours

The administration says a verification found encroachment with mandatory permissions missing.

Overview

  • On January 13, officials supervised by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate used earthmovers to remove part of an under-construction building in Dhaba village with police and revenue staff present.
  • Landowner Abdul Naeem says he was building a nursery-to-Class 8 private school, had invested nearly Rs 20 lakh, secured commercial land diversion and a Panchayat NOC, and filed a formal application on December 30.
  • The Gram Panchayat issued a removal notice on January 11 for lack of permission, then granted a No Objection Certificate the next day after local pushback.
  • Authorities state that only the encroaching section was demolished because required approvals were not in place.
  • Villagers report days of rumours labeling the site an unauthorised madrasa and say the demolition occurred while many residents were away meeting district officials.
