Overview

  • The Porter County Coroner’s Office identified the victims on July 7 as 65-year-old David Meneou of Joliet and his 20-year-old son, Jameson Meneou of Lockport.
  • A preliminary investigation by the Indiana DNR indicates Jameson Meneou struggled in deep water at Boaters Beach before his father jumped in to rescue him and both were overcome by currents.
  • Conservation Officers, Indiana Dunes National Park Rangers and a Good Samaritan crew used off-road vehicles and a patrol boat to recover the men and administer CPR on shore.
  • Paramedics transported the Meneous to a nearby hospital where both were pronounced dead and the coroner’s office will release further findings pending family notification.
  • The National Weather Service has extended high-wave, rip-current alerts through Monday evening across southern Lake Michigan beaches due to dangerous conditions.
