• On Wednesday at around 6:30 p.m., a 2-year-old slipped onto a baggage conveyor belt at the JetBlue departures counter in Terminal A
• Two Port Authority officers entered the luggage system within minutes and intercepted the child just before the X-ray scanner
• The rescue lasted under five minutes and ended when the toddler was found unharmed in the checked baggage room
• After being reunited with relatives from Staten Island, the family proceeded to their vacation in Tampa, Florida
• The incident follows a recent air traffic control radar and communications blackout and coincides with accelerated runway construction at Newark Airport
