Porsche Pushes SSP Into 2030s, Revives Hybrids and Petrol Options in Strategy Reset

Weak EV demand coupled with development setbacks is pushing Porsche to phase launches on existing platforms.

Overview

  • Porsche has deferred Volkswagen Group’s SSP electric platform for its models to well into the 2030s, according to new reporting.
  • The next 718 Boxster and Cayman, expected from 2027–2028 on a shortened PPE base, are now confirmed to add combustion-engine top versions alongside electric variants.
  • The large K1 SUV project shifts into the next decade and, per reports, will be offered as petrol, plug‑in hybrid and electric, with combustion-led introductions planned.
  • Porsche retains EVs such as Taycan and Macan Electric and still targets an electric Cayenne in 2025, while Cayenne and Panamera continue with ICE and plug‑in hybrid drivetrains.
  • Near-term products will lean on existing J1 and expanded PPE architectures, with reports also citing internal delays and potential implications for Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini that had eyed SSP derivatives.
