Overview

  • Popz and Genuport Trade GmbH voluntarily recalled four microwave popcorn varieties on July 7 after quality controls detected elevated levels of PFAS precursor compounds 8:2-FTOH and 10:2-FTHO in the packaging.
  • Major retailers including Rewe, Kaufland and online platforms such as Amazon have removed the affected stock nationwide and are participating in the recall.
  • Rewe Media Center and Popz confirm there is no evidence that PFAS compounds migrated into the popcorn and no immediate health risk has been identified.
  • Consumers who purchased the recalled products can return them to any point of sale for a full refund, with specific barcodes, best-before dates and lot numbers detailed in the recall notice.
  • Popz and Genuport have not yet issued the promised detailed press or customer briefings after telephone inquiries, leaving additional information pending.
