Despite Popovich's intervention, the booing continued throughout the game, with Leonard and other Clippers players being targeted.
Leonard, who left the Spurs in 2018 under acrimonious circumstances, led the Clippers to a 109-102 victory over the Spurs, scoring a game-high 26 points.
Popovich's actions were unusual for an NBA coach and drew attention, but did not stop the booing from the fans.
