Pope Presents Shards of True Cross for King Charles III's Coronation
- Small fragments of wood believed to be from the cross on which Jesus was crucified will be incorporated into King Charles III's coronation.
- The True Cross shards were gifted to King Charles III by Pope Francis and fixed into the Cross of Wales, a silver cross made for the king to give to the Church in Wales.
- The cross uses Welsh slate, reclaimed wood, and silver from the Royal Mint in Llantrisant, and is inscribed with the words of St. David, the patron saint of Wales.
- The cross will be blessed by the Anglican Archbishop of Wales and carried into Westminster Abbey as part of the coronation procession on May 6.
- The cross is a symbol of the deep Christian roots of the nation and encourages people to model their lives on the love given by Jesus Christ.
