Overview
- Celebrating the Jubilee of the Missions and of Migrants on Oct. 5 in Saint Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV addressed an estimated 30,000 pilgrims.
- He said boats seeking a safe port and eyes filled with anguish must not meet the coldness of indifference or the stigma of discrimination.
- He declared that a new missionary age has begun in which the frontiers are no longer geographical because poverty and suffering now reach receiving communities.
- He taught that mission today also means remaining where we are to manifest Christ through hospitality, welcome, compassion and solidarity toward those who arrive.
- He urged renewed cooperation among churches and a revival of missionary vocations, especially in Europe, thanked those serving migrants, and told migrants they are always welcome.
