- José Gregorio Hernández and Carmen Rendiles were declared saints, the first from Venezuela to be canonized by the Catholic Church.
- Five others were elevated to sainthood: Ignatius Choukrallah Maloyan of Turkey, Peter To Rot of Papua New Guinea, Vincenza Maria Poloni and Maria Troncatti of Italy, and Bartolo Longo of Italy.
- Local authorities reported roughly 55,000 pilgrims at the ceremony, as Venezuelans marked the milestone with large gatherings at home and in the diaspora.
- Venezuela announced two nonworking days of jubilation and scheduled a national thanksgiving Mass for October 25 at Caracas’s Monumental Simón Bolívar stadium.
- On the same day, the Pope blessed Peru’s Señor de los Milagros image in St. Peter’s Square, followed by a Vatican Mass for the devotion presided by Cardinal Pedro Barreto.
