Pontins Parent Company Denies Corporate Manslaughter in Brean Sands Collapse
The hearing comes after prosecutors accused the company’s safety management of gross negligence under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act.
Overview
- Britannia Jinky Jersey Ltd formally pleaded not guilty on July 30 at Bristol Crown Court to corporate manslaughter and failings under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act.
- Prosecutors say the charges relate to a February 2019 collapse of around 40 metres of ducting and ceiling in Pontins’ Fun Factory at Brean Sands that injured 18 holidaymakers.
- The corporate manslaughter count alleges gross breaches of duty between January 2015 and August 2019 that led to the death of 68-year-old Wendy Jones.
- A second charge claims unsafe installation of soundproofing materials in the Fun Factory exposed the public to risks before the collapse.
- Judge Julian Lambert has scheduled a six-week trial to begin on 12 October 2026, following a six-year investigation by Avon and Somerset Police and Somerset Council.
