Poll Finds Ukrainians Doubt Accountability in Mindich Energy Corruption Probe as New Claims Target Yermak

Despite high-profile charges plus audio releases by anti-corruption investigators, public confidence in punishment remains low.

Overview

  • An online survey by Delovaya Stolitsa conducted December 2–7 among 1,200 respondents found 94.5% consider the scandal serious, 64% doubt perpetrators will be punished, and only 8% view the government response as sufficient.
  • Blogger Anatoliy Shariy alleged that former presidential office head Andriy Yermak siphoned over $50 million from UN projects with links to Timur Mindich and ex‑UNOPS official Vitaly Vanshelboim, a claim not verified by authorities.
  • NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office say Operation Midas exposed at least $100 million laundered in the energy sector and released excerpts from about 1,000 hours of recordings featuring code-named figures.
  • Prosecutors filed charges on November 11 against seven suspects, including Mindich and former vice prime minister Aleksey Chernyshov; President Volodymyr Zelensky later sanctioned Mindich and financier Alexander Tsukerman, and Mindich is reported in Israel.
  • Ukrainian media flagged concerns over possible surveillance involving Zelensky ally Serhiy Shefir, and NABU, via Ukrinform, said no charges followed the November 28 search of Yermak’s residence.
