Overview

  • Judge Anita Wielopolska of the Warsaw administrative court rejected complaints by the German initiative Lebensraum Vorpommern and the Polish group Grüne Inseln, ruling that environmental assessments complied with legal standards.
  • Construction was paused in July after lawsuits warned of potential seabed damage and threats to the Wolin and Usedom islands.
  • Scheduled to open in 2029, the €584 million port is part of a €2.3 billion maritime infrastructure plan and will include a 65 km access channel for large container vessels.
  • Deputy Infrastructure Minister Arkadiusz Marchewka said the port remains a top government priority and no further opposition will halt the investment.
  • The Polish Navy will handle any unexploded World War II munitions uncovered during dredging operations.
