Polish Bishop Grzegorz Kaszak Resigns Amid Scandal over Priest-organised Sex Party

Resignation follows reports of a male prostitute collapsing during a sex party arranged by priests, as the Sosnowiec diocese reels under scandals including a violent confrontation at a gay club and a mysterious homicide.

Bishop Grzegorz Kaszak of the Sosnowiec diocese in southwest Poland tendered his resignation following media reports of a sex party organized by priests where a male prostitute reportedly collapsed due to overdose of erectile dysfunction pills.
The incident occurred in the apartment of priest Tomasz Z, who was later dismissed, with his behavior cited as 'a cause of great scandal for the faithful and justified indignation of public opinion'.
Following the event, Kaszak requested the faithful to pray for the priests involved and those who were impacted by their behavior.
Bishop Kaszak's resignation comes amidst a spate of scandals within the diocese, including a violent confrontation at a gay club by the then-acting rector of the Sosnowiec seminary in 2010 and a mysterious murder-suicide involving a 26-year-old deacon and a 40-year-old priest in March 2023.
The Priest who hosted the party denied preventing paramedics from entering his apartment and perceived the report as an attack on the church. However, he has not been formally charged by Polish prosecutors.
