Ukraine Opens New Border Crossing in Response to Protests

Polish and Slovak truckers have been blocking border crossings with Ukraine since early November, demanding the reinstatement of a permit system that limited the number of Ukrainian truckers able to operate in the EU.
Ukrainian truckers are accused of offering lower prices and transporting goods within the EU, rather than just between the bloc and Ukraine, creating unfair competition.
Poland's Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, has stated that Poland will 'strongly and unequivocally' demand the EU to restore permits for Ukrainian truckers.
Ukraine has opened a new border crossing at Uhryniv-Dolhobychuv for empty trucks to leave in response to the protests, which have created long lines at the biggest crossings.
The blockade does not affect private cars or deliveries for Ukraine’s armed forces, which are escorted through a customs complex.
