Overview

  • An unscientific online poll by Polis’s office drew nearly 90,000 participants and found 94% opposed the proposed Colorado 150 Walkway.
  • The 1,100-square-foot pedestrian bridge would have linked the State Capitol to Lincoln Veterans Memorial Park at a projected cost of $18–30 million, with $1.5 million already spent on planning.
  • Veterans organizations and preservationists argued the bridge intruded on hallowed ground and called for its cancellation.
  • On July 22, Polis announced he would stop the bridge project and halt any further development in response to the survey results.
  • He will now seek input from the Colorado Sesquicentennial Commission on alternative celebrations, including mobile art exhibits under joint 150-250 anniversary branding.
