Police Use of Force on High School Band Director Under Investigation

Johnny Mims, band director at Minor High School in Alabama, was tasered and arrested after refusing police orders to stop the band's traditional "fifth-quarter" performance after a football game.
Mims claims he had arranged with the opposing team's band director to continue playing, but police say he refused their orders to stop.
The incident escalated to a verbal confrontation and physical struggle before Mims was tasered and charged with disorderly conduct, harassment and resisting arrest.
Birmingham Police Department's internal affairs unit is investigating the officers' use of force in the incident.
Educators, lawyers and a state legislator have expressed support for Mims and called for the charges against him to be dropped and the officers held accountable.
