Police Track Stolen McLean Bulldozer to Kentucky After Facebook Resale, Arrest Michigan Man

The case led to a Kentucky sting tied to more than $185,000 in stolen equipment.

Overview

  • Fairfax County police say a bulldozer was taken from a McLean job site on Aug. 11 after a person claimed it needed maintenance.
  • Detectives used GPS to trace the machine to Laurel County, Kentucky, and recovered it from a buyer who purchased it through Facebook Marketplace.
  • Investigators identified Dushon Raynard Sheperd, 34, of Michigan, obtained a warrant for larceny by false pretense, and he was arrested in Kentucky awaiting extradition to Fairfax County.
  • Working with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, investigators linked the theft to a broader operation and conducted an Aug. 29 undercover buy that resulted in two arrests.
  • Authorities said Sheperd and Bria Parks, 23, were charged in Kentucky with receiving stolen property as officers recovered additional equipment taken from Maryland worth tens of thousands of dollars, and police are seeking tips.
