Police Trace Last Movements After Man, 45, Found Dead at Smestow Academy Fields

Detectives have opened an unexplained-death inquiry with a public appeal for witnesses.

Overview

  • West Midlands Police say the deceased is a 45-year-old man found with injuries, with the death treated as unexplained as CCTV is reviewed and specialist officers support his family.
  • He was sighted on Wheatsheaf Road around 1am and later on the school grounds at about 7:15am, last seen in a camouflage jacket, grey gilet, jeans, a beanie hat, and carrying a red rucksack.
  • Emergency services were called to the playing fields around 10:40am, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene after two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended.
  • Pupils were sent home on police advice and the school says it will reopen with assemblies and support for affected students, noting the incident is unconnected with the academy.
