Overview

• On July 28 in Marseille’s 14th arrondissement, a police SUV chasing a motorcyclist for refusal to obey was struck at a crossroads and overturned in the Busserine neighborhood.
• Two officers sustained minor neck injuries and were taken to hospital by firefighters for evaluation.
• About a dozen individuals threw projectiles at the officers as they exited the overturned vehicle.
• Police responded by deploying a de-encirclement grenade and two tear-gas grenades to disperse the hostile crowd.
• The Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture and council president Martine Vassal condemned the attacks and opened an official inquiry into the incident.
