Surveillance footage with witness IDs guided officers to a 27-year-old suspect minutes later.

  • Investigators say the driver exited a 15th Street parking garage through a gate, hit another vehicle, jumped the curb at 16th and Market, and knocked over an electronic kiosk that killed a pedestrian just after 2:15 a.m. Sunday.
  • Police arrested 27-year-old Milton McBride about one-fifth of a mile away on Wazee Street roughly 30 minutes after the crash, following witness identification.
  • Officers documented slurred speech, alcohol odor, stumbling and bloodshot eyes, and paramedics took McBride for a hospital blood draw; test results were not public as of Tuesday.
  • A bag containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine was recovered from McBride’s pocket during his arrest, according to the arrest affidavit.
  • Court records show McBride’s license was suspended, he had an active warrant from El Paso County, and he previously pleaded guilty in 2022 to DUI and assaulting a police officer; the victim has not been publicly identified.
