Police Stop Family of Fugitive TCP Leader Near Bolivia Border With Jewelry Cache

Federal Police will analyze the seized jewelry to confirm authenticity and value.

Overview

  • Highway police, acting on Rio Civil Police intelligence, intercepted two vehicles on BR-262 near Campo Grande on December 8 as they traveled toward Corumbá on the Bolivia border.
  • Occupants were identified as the wife, three children and a nephew of Álvaro Malaquias Santa Rosa, known as Peixão, who was not found with the convoy.
  • The search turned up numerous jewels, including pieces with inscriptions referencing the fugitive and his faction, and the nephew claimed ownership of the items.
  • The group was initially detained on suspicion of money laundering, asset concealment and involvement with a criminal organization, then gave statements to Federal Police and was released.
  • Authorities say the manhunt for Peixão, the Terceiro Comando Puro leader with multiple outstanding warrants, continues as investigators forensically examine the seized items.
