Overview

• Investigators say a westbound Ford Fiesta turning onto Old Ashburnham Road crossed into an eastbound Jeep Compass, causing a head-on collision around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday.
• The vehicles rolled together for more than 100 feet and caught fire, which responders and a Good Samaritan extinguished.
• EMS pronounced the Fiesta’s driver, Richard Pezzolesi, 52, dead at the scene.
• The Jeep’s driver, Robert Adams, 24, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to UMass Memorial after helicopters were grounded by weather.
• Police report a Honda Accord was damaged after driving through debris and they are asking a second driver who left the scene to contact them as Route 119 reopened following a roughly four-hour closure.
