Police Seal Houses in Liverpool, Milton Keynes and Witney With Three-Month Closure Orders

Closure orders leverage Section 80 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act to shut down homes tied to drug dealing or violence.

Overview

  • A full closure order was issued on July 18 for a Liverpool property where neighbours reported six months of drug dealing and nightly fights.
  • On July 22, Thames Valley Police secured four partial closure orders in Milton Keynes after locals reported alcohol and drug-related disorder at multiple North Tenth Street addresses.
  • The following day, a closure order was imposed on a Witney home after numerous complaints, making unauthorised entry a criminal offence for up to three months.
  • Under Section 80 of the Act, anyone found inside a sealed property without permission may face arrest and penalties of up to six months imprisonment or a £5,000 fine.
  • Police are working with housing providers to conduct community patrols, perform threat assessments and provide welfare support for residents named in the orders.
