Police Say Two Elderly Cancer Patients Die by Suicide in Separate Gurugram Incidents

Police attribute both deaths to advanced illness, citing mental distress.

Overview

  • Jyoti Wadhwa, 62, left her Sector 56 home around 5:45–6:00 am Tuesday and, according to police, jumped from the terrace before being declared dead at a nearby private hospital.
  • CCTV footage shows Wadhwa going to the terrace alone, and relatives told investigators she had severe pain and sleeplessness despite medication.
  • In Sector 43 on Monday night around 10:45 pm, Anita, 65, a blood cancer patient under treatment at AIIMS Delhi, allegedly jumped from the eighth floor and was declared dead at hospital.
  • Police said no suicide notes were found and no suspicious circumstances were detected in either case, linking both deaths to distress from advanced-stage cancer.
  • Postmortems have been completed, the bodies were handed to families, and officers are recording statements as inquiries continue at Sushant Lok and Sector 56 police stations.
