Authorities identified Paul Maraio as the neighbor who fatally shot two residents in the Tropical East community, then took a third neighbor hostage before shooting himself and later dying at a hospital. Investigators linked the violence to a conflict with the Tropical East HOA that included an eviction order directing Maraio to vacate the property by December 14, 2025. The victims were named as Mark D. Golden and David W. Gasik; Golden served as the HOA treasurer, and Gasik was married to the HOA secretary. Police released bodycam video of the response and, in newly obtained home-security footage, Maraio is seen walking calmly through the neighborhood moments before shots were reported. Chief Leo Niemczyk detailed prior complaints and trespass orders involving Maraio and Golden, noted earlier political tensions, and said investigators are examining how Maraio obtained the pistol and whether earlier interventions were possible.
