Police Say Family Was Homeless After 6 Children Found Locked in Milwaukee Storage Unit, 2 Arrested

The case remains under investigation with charging decisions pending.

Overview

  • Officers responded around 1:36 a.m. to the StorSafe facility near N. 27th St. and W. Silver Spring Dr., and fire crews forced entry into the unit.
  • The children, ages 2 months to 9 years, were found alone, reported uninjured, and placed in the care of Child Protective Services.
  • Police said the detained 26-year-old woman and 33-year-old man were part of a family without housing, and sources told WISN the two are the children’s parents.
  • No charges had been filed as of Wednesday evening, and police had not yet referred the case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for charging.
  • Dispatch audio initially indicated only two children were inside, and neighbors gave conflicting accounts about seeing kids at the storage site in recent weeks.
