Overview

• Passengers contacted Polizei Ratzeburg Monday evening after an unmuzzled, off-leash Rottweiler threatened people at the station.
• Arriving officers deployed pepper spray against the dog and its 46-year-old, intoxicated owner, injuring one officer and the owner.
• When the Rottweiler broke free and lunged at a 25-year-old officer, a second officer fired his service weapon and killed the animal on the platform.
• The dog owner was treated for pepper spray injuries, released from the hospital, and is now under criminal investigation.
• An internal review has been launched to determine whether the use of lethal force in the incident was proportionate.
