Police Review Central Edmonton Parking-Lot Crash That Killed 86-Year-Old Driver

Investigators say a medical episode may have contributed to the SUV striking a tree.

Overview

  • The collision occurred around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday when a Chevrolet Equinox hit a tree in a parking lot near 111 Avenue and 119 Street.
  • Edmonton Fire Rescue Services and EMS took the 86-year-old driver and his 80-year-old passenger to hospital with injuries initially described as non-life-threatening.
  • The driver's condition worsened later that day and he died in hospital, and police were notified of his death on Aug. 21.
